A survivor of childhood sexual abuse with a long road to healing, Abuse Hurts CEO & Founder, Ellen Campbell translated her own recovery into hope for others during her tenure as Executive Director for The Starlight Children’s Foundation, where she served for 12 years. In 1993 she founded Abuse Hurts (Previously The Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness).
Abuse Hurts provides support for thousands of people who have experienced abuse. Women , children , and men, who are starting over again and leaving a shelter can get clothing, housewares, bedding, toiletries, furniture and any other items that might help them in their new lives. Once a month women get a total makeover day of pampering.
In addition to the many programs offered, Abuse Hurts advocates for legislative reform to protect children. Most recently, Abuse Hurts has been advocating on behalf of abandoned babies that are literally thrown away. They have buried 13 to date and would like legislation that would allow a mother to leave a baby in any hospital anonymously. Because of her tireless work with legislative reform, Ellen was appointed to the Judicial Appointments of Judges for Ontario, where she served for 2 years.
Ellen was ordained in 2014 , with Eagle Worldwide Ministries and holds inner healing conferences in prisons, and churches.
Ellen is also beginning to set up Marketplace Ministry groups, as she has been a Marketplace Minister for many years.
Ellen has received many awards for her work, but she would be the first one to say she receives them on behalf of the many volunteers that make it work.
